Ligue 1 Conforama to be renamed Ligue 1 Uber Eats from 2020-21 season

No it’s not a joke- Uber Eats have officially become Ligue 1’s new naming partner and will have their name next to the French top flight beginning the 2020/2021 season. The deal is for a period of two seasons- meaning that 20/21 and 21/22 will both be called Ligue 1 Uber Eats.

Ligue 1’s current naming sponsor is Conforama. Uber Eats will pay €32m for the naming rights, a significant upgrade over the €20m reportedly paid by Conforama.

Ligue 2, the second division of French football is already sponsored by pizza giant Domino’s- 19/20’s winners will therefore technically earn promotion from “Domino’s Ligue 2” to “Ligue 1 Uber Eats” It also lead netizens to jokingly wonder whether KFC would be lined up as sponsors of the Championnnat National soon!

This is Uber Eats’ first major sports sponsorship agreement in the European continent. The 2020/21 season will also see the match ball being brought onto the pitch by an Uber Eats delivery person.

Argentina are in Group B for Copa America, alongside Colombia, Paraguay and Qatar.
