This year’s Community Shield between Arsenal and Manchester City returns to Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium, the first time the venue has staged the fixture since 2006. That 2006 game was won 2-1 by Liverpool against Chelsea, with John Arne Riise and Peter Crouch scoring for the Reds.
This year, it’s returning to the Welsh capital due to Wembley not being available due to the Weeknd’s concert at the venue. It’s also a reminder that, despite its close, almost instantaneous association with Wembley for the younger generation, the competition has a much wider geographical history than most fans realise.
