Late goals from Joey Barton and Andy Carroll ensured that Alan Pardew had a winning start to his reign as Newcastle manager.
Carroll’s goal was without a doubt the goal of the game, but it also had as much to do with Liverpool’s poor defending as with his own prodigious ability.
West Ham 1-3 Manchester City ( James Tomkins/ Yaya Toure*2, Adam Johnson)
Manchester City moved to joint top spot in the Premiership with Arsenal after a comfortable 3-1 win over struggling West Ham United at Upton Park. Yaya Toure scored two goals while substitute Adam Johnson scored the third after being brilliantly set up by David Silva.

Toure’s first goal was an absolute cracker. Look at the power on the shot- you would think that Green should have been able to stop it, but the power was such that it gave him no chance.
The second goal was a little bit fortuitous- Toure’s shot rebounded off Green and into the goal.
