After nearly 40 odd days of action-packed football across three countries, the World Cup is finally done and dusted, with Spain beating defending champions Argentina 1-0 in the final. The new Premier League season is however only about a month away, and we’ll see Arsenal, coached by Spaniard Mikel Arteta, defend the crown they won last season.

Winners Spain have three representatives in the TOTW, as do losing semi-finalists France. Runners-up Argentina have two players, while Cape Verde, England and Norway all have one representative. Every outfield position has at least one Premier League based player.

Goalkeeper Emi Martinez and defenders Tagliafico and Romero aside, L’Equipe thought this was a very ordinary performance from the Argentine team. The French paper gave Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez a 3/10, with LFC medio Alexis only faring marginally better with a 4/10.
