A brace from Lionel Messi gave Barcelona a convincing win over third placed Villarreal on Saturday, November 14, 2010. Messi’s second half double wrapped up things for the Blaugrana after Nilmar had cancelled out David Villa’s opener.
The result temporarily takes Barcelona to the top of the league.
Stoke City 2-0 Liverpool ( Ricardo Fuller, Kenwyne Jones)
Stoke moved above Liverpool in the league table as they beat the Reds 2-0 at the Britannia Stadium on November 13, 2010.
A scrappy opening goal from Ricardo Fuller and a nice finish from Kenwyne Jones gave the Potters a rare victory over the Reds. This, in fact, was Stoke City’s first win over Liverpool in 26 years.
Liverpool looked a shadow of the side that had downed Chelsea a week ago and questions will again be asked about manager Roy Hodgson.
Liverpool also had Lucas sent off late in the game.
Aston Villa 2-2 Manchester United ( Ashley Young, Marc Abrighton/ Federico Macheda, Nemanja Vidic) on November 13, 2010 at Villa Park, Birmingham.
Two late goals from Federico Macheda and Nemanja Vidic allowed Manchester United to play out a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa after the Red Devils were trailing 2-0 with ten odd minutes to play. Villa took the lead through an Ashley Young penalty and doubled their advantage soon after through Marc Albrighton.
Aston Villa were excellent in the second half and dominated United but Sir Alex Ferguson came up with another late escape to salvage a point.
