What is the regular penalty conversion success rate at Euro 2021 so far?

As of July 11, 2021, 17 penalties have been awarded and 9 of them have been converted (3 by Ronaldo himself), meaning a conversion rate of 52.94%

Without Ronaldo’s 3 penalties, the success rate drops to 42.86 (6/14 penalties). Only one of the first five pens in the tournament were converted, as you can see above- the ratio improved as the tournament progressed.

Who has missed penalties in regular time for Spain at Euro 2020?

Both Gerard Moreno and Alvaro Morata have missed regular time spot kicks for Spain at Euro 2020. In the shootout v Switzerland, Busquets and Rodri missed theirs while against Italy in the shootout, Dani Olmo & Morata missed.

Mbappe was the only one of the 10 players on either side to miss his penalty in the France-Switzerland shootout, with Sommer saving his spot kick.

In Spain v Switzerland- there was nine penalties in total, but only 4 were converted (5 were unsuccessful)

In Italy vs Spain, seven penalties were taken- four players scored & three players missed. No team had won two penalty shootouts at the same Euros and Spain, who had beaten Switzerland, lost to Italy here.

In the Italy v England shootout in the final, 5 players missed their penalties as Italy won 3-2.

Add to this the 9/17 successful penalties in regular/extra time, and the overall penalty conversion rate (regular + shootout) becomes 64.58% (31/48 penalties)

  1. Considering that the standard xG for a penalty is around 0.80, the 40% odd success rate for non CR7 penalties at Euro 2020 as I write this comment is shocking.
