Dejan Stankovic’s brilliant opening goal for Inter Milan goes in vain as Schalke 04 stage a great triumph under new coach Ralf Rangnick to win 5-2 against the defending champions at the San Siro.

Tottenham’s fairytale run in Europe looks to be heading for an end as they are crushed 4-0 by Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal at the Bernabeu. Peter Crouch was sent off early in the game for Tottenham, who had Aaron Lennon withdraw from the fixture at the very last minute through illness.
This stunning Dejan Stankovic goal vs Schalke gave Inter the lead in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal against Schalke 04. Unfortunately, the Stankovic goal, the first in the Inter vs Schalke fixture, came in a losing cause as Schalke crushed Inter Milan 5-2 to move into the drivers’ seat.
The Stankovic goal v Schalke was easily one of the contenders for goal of the tournament. It was a fabulous volley goal from Stankovic, with the Serbian midfielder scoring from near the halfway line ( around 40 yards out) after Schalke keeper Manuel Neuer had left his goal unguarded by coming out to head away a through ball.
