A little over two years after he joined Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea for £30m, Ukraine striker Andriy Shevchenko has returned to Italy after Chelsea and AC Milan agreed terms. Sheva failed to live up to his reputation at Stamford Bridge and like Argentine Hernan Crespo, opted for a return back to the Serie A. He cemented his place in history as one of the world’s top marksmen when he was at the San Siro, scoring 127 goals in 208 games for the Rossoneri.

Carlo Ancelotti will not be a happy man. Neither will Milan Vice President Adriano Galliani after the Rossoneri were thrashed 5-0 by Chelsea in the Russian Railways Cup. The game was an effective third place playoff after Chelsea and Milan had lost to Lokomotiv Moscow and Sevilla respectively.

Judging by reports in the press, Togo forward Emmanuel Adebayor will not be reunited with Mathieu Flamini next season. AC Milan, who had earlier expressed interest in signing the Arsenal striker, have said that they cannot meet Arsenal’s 45 million euro valuation of the player. Barcelona have already had a £25 million pound bid rejected.

After being beaten by Roma, Inter Milan had to wait a little longer to clinch the Serie A. However Roma’s 2-1 loss at the hands of Atalanta and Inter beating Siena by the same margin means that the Nerazzuri are now this season’s Serie A champions. Inter are now on 84, with Roma on 68, with both the teams have 5 games left in the season.
Without Juventus being there and with Milan and Lazio being docked points at the start of the season for their alleged role in the match fixing scandal, Inter were favourites from the very beginning. Inter were also declared winners of the 2005-2006 edition after the court verdict of the match fixing scandal. Inter had originally finished third last season.
