Real surprisingly lost 3-0 to Arsenal, with Declan Rice scoring two fantastic free kicks (the first time in his senior career that he’s scored a free kick goal!)

Marca went with the “Humillados” (Humiliated) headline, but also added a note underneath that “For Madrid, nothing is impossible“, indicating that one can never count Los Blancos out of the tie ahead of the return leg at the Bernabeu despite trailing 3-0 from the first leg.

Declan Rice scored two stunning free kicks for Arsenal, and L’Equipe, who are notoriously tough/stingy with their ratings, have given him a 9/10.

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Thibault Courtois and medio Jude Bellingham were the best Real Madrid players against Arsenal with a 5/10 rating. Vini and Rodrygo got a 2/10 player rating while Mbappe was given a 3/10 rating by L’Equipe.

Arsenal vs PSV 2-2 European Newspaper Player Ratings 2025 UCL Round of 16 Second Leg

Here is a look at how some of the big European sports newspapers rated both Arsenal and PSV Eindhoven’s players following the second leg of their Round of 16 Champions League match at the Emirates Stadium (Attendance 59,410). Arsenal took the lead twice, but PSV equalised both times as the game ended in a 2-2 draw, with the Gunners progressing 9-3 on aggregate thanks to their 7-1 win last week.

Arsenal’s next game is against Chelsea at the Emirates.

French newspaper L’Equipe thought the two teams were pretty evenly matched on the day, giving both of them the same team rating. They weren’t very impressed with the performances of Tierney and Merino though- the duo got a 4/10 rating, the lowest among the starting Arsenal players.

On the PSV side, LB Tyrell Malacia (on loan from Manchester United), also got a 4/10, as did midfielder Schouten.
