Here is a look at how some of the big French newspapers rated Les Bleus’ players following their 2-0 defeat against Croatia in the first leg of their Nations League QF on Thursday night. France lost 2-0 to Croatia in Split, with Ante Budimir and Ivan Perisic scoring for the hosts.

French sports paper L’Equipe wasn’t pleased with Les Bleus’ performance in Split, giving them a team rating of just 4.1/10.

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate got the worst player rating in their books, with a 2/10 for the CB. His defensive partner, Arsenal’s William Saliba, only fared marginally better with a 3/10 rating. Konate was replaced at half time by Bayern’s Dayot Upamecano.

On the Croatian side, Man City defender Josko Gvardiol got a 7/10, which was the highest player rating on either side (shared with some other Croatian players). His MCFC team mate Mateo Kovacic however only got a 5/10 from L’Equipe.

French newspaper L’Equipe tend to be notoriously harsh with their player ratings, and it’s reflected in their notes for this clash.

Despite winning 3-1, France have an average team rating of 5.9/10. The French forwards have pretty poor ratings- Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku gets a 4/10- the same as Marcus Thuram, but better than Kolo-Muani (3/10)

At the back, Arsenal’s William Saliba gets a 6/10. His defensive partner was Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate, who was also France’s designated captain for this clash against the Azzurri. Konate got a 7/10. The pick of the backs was Everton’s Lucas Digne, who got a 9/10 from L’Equipe, while Barca’s Jules Kounde was the lowest rated (4/10)

Saliba struggles- L’Equipe Le Figaro newspaper player ratings Belgium France 1-2 UNL

Here is a look at the player ratings for Belgium v France in the Nations League last night from Brussels. Arsenal’s William Saliba was in the French lineup against Les Diables Rouges, but had a shocker, as shown from these ratings. His Gunners team mate Leandro Trossard in the Belgian starting XI.

Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate started alongside Saliba in defence while Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku came off the bench for Les Bleus.

L’Equipe gave Saliba a 3/10 player rating for his performance against Belgium- the worst player rating on either side.

They gave Trossard a 5/10 with the best French players in their eyes being striker Kolo Muani (who scored a brace) and keeper Mike Maignan. Kolo Muani got a 8/10 while Maignan was given a 7.

They thought the Belgian starting XI (5.2/10) did better than Les Bleus’ starters (4.9/10 team rating)

Le Figaro used the adjective “catastrophique” for Saliba’s performance in their headline, and gave him a 3/10 too. However while L’Equipe thought Konate only fared marginally better (4/10), Le Figaro gave the Liverpool defender a 6/10 for his efforts.
